Tenderfoot - Tenderfoot is the first advancement setp in Scouting.  It is achieved by learning basic things needed in scouts, such as the square knot and pitching a tent.

2nd Class - Second Class is the second setp in advancing.  It has a few more difficult tasks, such as using a map and compass or building a fire.

1st Class - First Class is the third step in reaching Eagle rank.  This is harder than second class to acheive, and has tasks such as using the sun or start to find your way, and the common signs of a heart attack.

Star - The rank of Star changes from learning the skills of Scouting to using those skills to earn merit badges.  To earn Star rank, you must achieve four eagle-required merit badges and two non-required badges.  You must be a First Class scout for at least four months.

Eagle - The highest rank in Boy Scouts.  To achieve this goal, you must get all twenty-one of the Eagle-required merit badges, be a Life scout for at least six months, and organize a service project to benefit an organization other than the Boy Scouts.  After attaining the rank of Eagle, you may receive Eagle Palms for every five merit badges that you complete.
